Christof Fischesser - Baritone/Bass

Biography

Born in Wiesbaden, Christof Fischesser studied voice at the Academy of Performing Arts in Frankfurt/ Main. In 2000, he won the first prize at the National Singing Competition in Berlin, which led to a several-year engagement at the Karlsruhe Opera, performing Sir Giorgio (I Puritani), Graf Walter (Luisa Miller), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Orest (Elektra), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra) as well as the title role of Boito's Mefistofele.

After making his debut at the Berlin Staatsoper as Rocco (Fidelio) under the baton of Simone Young in 2004, he was contracted there on a yearly basis, singing Sarastro (Zauberflöte), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Banquo (Macbeth), Ramfis (Aida), Klingsor (Parsifal), König Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Landgraf (Tannhäuser), Gremin (Eugen Onegin), Escamillo (Carmen) and Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia). In addition, he has sung Kaspar (Freischütz) in Karlsruhe, Méphistophélès (Faust) and Kaspar in Wiesbaden, Le Comte des Grieux and Landgraf at Covent Garden London as well as Sir Giorgio (I Puritani) and Don Basilio at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Future plans include Landgraf (Tannhäuser) at the Opéra National de Paris and at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, König Marke (Tristan und Isolde) at Houston Grand Opera, Padre Guardiano in Antwerpen, Walter (Luisa Miller) in Munich as well as Landgraf, Sparafucile, Rocco, Ramphis and Sarastro at Zurich Opera.

Recent highlights in the concert field were his appearances with the West-Eastern-Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim on tour in Spain (Beethoven's 9th Symphony), with the Bavarian State Orchesta and Kent Nagano (Beethoven's Missa Solemnis), Beethoven's Mass in C Major with Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi at the Musikverein Wien and Mozart’s Requiem with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Claudio Abbado. He has sung Rocco (Fidelio) with Claudio Abbado at the Lucerne Festival in 2010.
