Claudio Otelli - Baritone/Bass
Biography
Claudio Otelli made his vocal studies at the Academy of Music in Vienna and was member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera.
Since 1994, he has been working free lance at important German and European theatres like Aalto-Theater Essen (Count, Marcello, Mandryka, Telramund), Bavarian State Opera Munich (Orest), Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin (Count, Rudolf/Der ferne Klang), , Semperoper Dresden (Mandryka), Frankfurt Opera (Siskov), Don Giovanni, Tonio, Jochanaan, Cardillac, Scarpia, Ryuji/Das verratene Meer), Staatsoper Stuttgart (Tamare/Die Gezeichneten), Scala Milan, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse (Gunther), Teatro Regio Torino (Olivier), Opéra du Rhin Strassburg (Amfortas), Lyon Opera (Pizarro), Savonlinna Festival (Orest), Teatro San Carlo Naples (Bluebeard), Nationale Reisopera Enschede (Le Villi, I due Foscari), Opera Geneva (Galilei), De Flores/Vipern in Berne and at Oper Leipzig (Telramund/Lohengrin)
At Bregenz Festival 2007 and 2008 he will sing Scarpia/Tosca.
In the USA he sang new productions at the Festival of Santa Fe (Jochanaan) and in Los Angeles (Count). He gave his debut in Japan in the role of Ramiro in a new production of L’Heure espagnole at the New National Theatre Tokyo, where he also performed Dr. Schön/Lulu and Sharpless/Madama Butterfly. At Tokyo Santori Hall he sang Ryuji in a concert version of Das verratene Meer.
Claudio Otelli cooperated with directors like Brieger, Grüber, Kirchner, Schaaf, Dresen, del Monaco, Nel, Lehnhoff, Mussbach, Joel, Kupfer and Pountney as well as with conductors like Muti, Abbado, Steinberg, Soltesz, Gielen, Hager, Reck, Rennert, Tate and Zagrosek.
His repertoire includes at the same time many parts of the classical opera as well as important roles of the contemporary music theatre, and he is an especially talented musical, vocal and dramatic performer.
His charismatic playing and profound interpretations of Stolzius/Die Soldaten at RuhrTriennale have brought him acclaim and reengagements at the Ruhr Festival this year as well as at the New National Theatre Tokyo and Lincoln Center New York in 2008.
Future engagement include a.o.: The four Villains/Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Warsaw, Scarpia/Tosca in Nantes, Falke/Die Fledermaus in Geneva and concerts with Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
