Ruben Drole - Baritone/Bass
Biography
Son of Spanish-Slovenian parents, Ruben Drole was born in 1980 in Switzerland. He studied voice at the Musikhochschule Zürich, where he graduated in 2005. He was prize winner of several singing competitions (Friedl Wald Foundation in 2002, MGB/cultural department, Pro Europa Foundation in 2005). In 2008, he was awarded with the prize of the Carl-Heinrich-Ernst-Kunststiftung Winterthur (Switzerland). He is coached by Jane Thorner Mengedoht.
During the season 2004/05, Ruben Drole was engaged at the International Opera Studio Zurich. At the Zurich Opera, he performed Papageno (Zauberflöte für Kinder), Commandante (Manon Lescaut) and John Sorrel (Der Konsul), among others.
Since the beginning of 2005/06, he has been engaged as a soloist at the Zurich Opera, performing parts such as Lucio Cinna (J.C. Bach’s Lucio Silla), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). During the summer 2006, he made his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as Haly (L’Italiana in Algeri).
At the Zurich Opera in 2006/07, he has sung in the new productions of La Finta semplice (Simone), L’Italiana in Algeri (Haly) and Die Zauberflöte (Papageno) with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Projects for 2007/08 include Paisiello’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (title role), Le Nozze di Figaro (title role), Cosi fan tutte (Guglielmo), Die Zauberflöte (Papageno) and Rinaldo (Argante) under William Christie. Furthermore, he will be performing Le Nozze di Figaro (title role) and Così fan tutte (Guglielmo) with the Cleveland Orchestra under Franz Welser-Möst.
Concert highlights include the Krönungsmesse with Ton Koopman and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, a Japan tour with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Concentus Musicus (Mozart’s Requiem and Händel’s Messiah) and Händel’s Israel in Egypt with Concerto Köln under Emmanuelle Haïm. For the label Deutsche Grammophon, he will be recording a CD with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and he gives numerous recitals within the series of Swiss Chamber Concerts.
