Patrick Lange - Conductor
Biography
From the season 2008/09, Patrick Lange is Music Director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève (OCG) and Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper Berlin, and he has, at 27, emerged as one of the most talented conductors of his generation.
Born in Germany, he began his music career at the age of 8 as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen boys' Choir. He studied conducting at the music academies of Würzburg and Zurich and is currently a member of the "Dirigentenforum" of the German Music Council. In the spring of 2007, he received the European Cultural Award in the category "promotional award for young conductors".
In 2005, he was appointed assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (he has been conducting a concert in August 2008 in Bolzano), where he began an association with Claudio Abbado. Since then, he has assisted Maestro Abbado with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Orchestra Mozart Bologna and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
Patrick Lange has appeared as a guest conductor with the Hamburger and the Bochumer Symphony Orchestras, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. In 2007, he conducted the Deutsches Bundesjugendorchester in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and Beijing.
His opera engagements have included Le Nozze di Figaro and Massenet's Cendrillon in Würzburg, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges in Zurich, La Cenerentola in Weikersheim as well as Falstaff and Don Giovanni in Lucerne.
In October of 2007, he made his debut at the Komische Oper Berlin with Le Nozze di Figaro. This led to a two-year engagement there as Kapellmeister, conducting La Bohème, Die Zauberflöte, Rigoletto, the world premiere of Frank Schwemmer’s Robin Hood and Der Vetter aus Dingsda. In 2009, he will make his debut in Glyndebourne (Glyndebourne on Tour) with Così fan tutte.
