Thomas Rösner - Conductor

Biography

Thomas Rösner was born in 1973 in Vienna, where he studied conducting at the Vienna Conservatory of Music and attended masterclasses given by Hans Graf and Myung-Whun Chung.

From 2000 to 2004, he was associate conductor at the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and became the Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Bienne in September 2005.

His orchestral engagements have included the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, MDR Orchester Leipzig, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Wiener Symphoniker, Bamberger Symphoniker, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Philharmonia Prag and Hamburger Symphoniker.

At the opera, he has conducted Le Nozze di Figaro at the Rome Opera, The Rake's Progress, Così fan tutte and the world premiere of Philippe Fénelon's Les Rois at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Hommage à Picasso at the Théâtre du Châtelet, at the Edinburgh Festival and the Diaghilev Festival, Cendrillon at the Opéra National de Lyon and Il Trovatore at the Bregenz Festival.

More recently, he was invited by the Glyndebourne Touring Opera (Le Nozze di Figaro), the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (Humperdinck’s Königskinder), the Glyndebourne Festival (Die Fledermaus), the Opéra de Marseille (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), the Geneva Opera (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle / The Miraculous Mandarin), the New National Theatre Tokyo (Salome), the Semperoper Dresden (La Cenerentola and Die Fledermaus), the Welsh National Opera (Hänsel und Gretel) and Deutsche Oper Berlin (Zauberflöte).

Projects include Die Fledermaus at the Bordeaux Opera and the Geneva Opera, Lucio Silla at the Angers-Nantes Opéra, Così fan tutte at the Toulon Opéra, Neues vom Tage by Hindemith at Dijon Opera, Orlando Paladino on tour in Switzerland, concerts with Orquesta de Extremadura and the symphony orchestras of Göttingen and Münster (Germany) and at Feldkirch Festival with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.

Thomas Rösner has recorded Il Trovatore (Bregenz Festival) in DVD format for Opus Arte.
