Biography
The American soprano Catherine Naglestad has distinguished herself on the international opera stage with her exciting vocal versatility and eminent acting ability.
Her rare passion is shown in roles such as Bellini's Norma, Gluck's Alceste, Handel's Alcina, Rodelinda, Melissa (Amadigi), Leoncavallo's Nedda, Monteverdi's Poppea, Mozart's Donna Elvira, Fiordiligi, Vitellia, Puccini's Butterfly, Manon Lescaut, Liu, Musetta and Tosca, Verdi's Amelia, Aida, Elisabetta, Leonora, Violetta, Weill's Dejanira and Catherine, Busoni's Duchess of Parma, Strauss' Salome and Wagner's Senta.
Opera engagemants have brought her to Amsterdam, London's Covent Garden, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington DC, Paris' Opera Bastille and Palais Garnier, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Berlin's State Opera and Deutsche Oper, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Munich, and the Vienna State Opera. She has also sung at the festivals in Orange, Edinburgh, Bregenz, Salzburg, Baden-Baden, Dresden, Munich, Ruhr-Triennale, Budapest, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Osaka. Her concerts with the NHK Symphony Orchestra were broadcast live from Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
Catherine Naglestad was named Kammersängerin in 2006 for her exceptional artistic achievements. She was chosen Singer of the Year by 'Opernwelt' for her vivid role portrayals of Norma and Alceste and received the Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year (Dallas Opera) for her interpretation of Tosca, a role which she has sung with unique intensity in London, Paris, Orange, Bordeaux, Marseille, Baden-Baden, Berlin, Stuttgart, Bregenz and Vienna.
DVDs include 'Der Fliegender Holländer' (Opus Arte); 'Alceste', 'Alcina' and 'Die Entführung aus dem Serail' (Arthaus); und 'La Clemenza di Tito' (Opus Arte).
Future projects include Tosca in Toulouse, Munich, Stuttgart and Zürich, Norma in Stuttgart, Leonora (Forza) in Antwerp and Gent, Brünnhilde (Siegfried) in Munich, Sieglinde in Amsterdam, Elsa in Madrid and Minnie in Zürich.
