Biography
The Polish soprano Elzbieta Szmytka studied with Helena Lazarska and made her debut as Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the opera of Krakow and was subsequently invited to many important theatres such as the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre Champs-Elysées, Vienna State Opera, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and festivals such as Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne.
Her repertoire includes several Mozart parts, such as Cinna/Lucio Silla, Pamina/Die Zauberflöte, Susanna/Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna/Don Giovanni, Konstanze/Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Ilia and Elettra/Idomeneo.
But Elzbieta Szmytka is not only a Mozart singer, her repertolire also shows parts as Gilda/Rigoletto, Violetta/La Traviata, Sophie/Der Rosenkavalier, Rosalinde/Die Fledermaus (Salzburg Festival), Mélisande/Pelleas et Melisande, Antonia/Contes d'Hoffmann, Alieja/Aus einem Totenhaus, Mimi/La Bohème, Roxana/Krol Roger (Szymanowski), Infantin/Der Zwerg, as well as title roles among others in Alcina, L'incoronazione di Poppea, Luisa Miller.
Elzbieta Szmytka has worked with: Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Sylvain Cambreling, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Neville Marriner, Antonio Pappano, John Pritchard, Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Georg Solti.
She took part in recording the complete Mozarts arias with Philips, as well as Così fan tutte with Sir Neville Marriner, La finta giardiniera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Blondchen) and Don Giovanni by Giuseppe Gazzaniga with Bruno Weill, Matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa, Die lustige Witwe with Franz Welser-Möst, Szymanovski's Krol Roger and Szymanovskis Stabat mater with Sir Simon Rattle and the complete recording of the Chopin songs.
