Pavol Breslik - Tenor

Biography

Pavol Breslik was born in Slovakia in 1979 and studied at the Music University in Bratislava. In 2000, he won the first Prize at the Antonin Dvorak Competition in the Czech Republic. In 2002/03 he was a member of the Opera Studio CNIPAL in Marseille. He attended master classes with Ivonne Minton, Mady Mesplé, Peter Dvorsky and William Matteuzzi. In 2005, he was appointed "young singer of the year" by the German magazine Opernwelt.

Between 2003 and 2006, Pavol Breslik was engaged as a soloist at the Staatsoper Berlin, where he performed parts such as Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Nemorino (L'Elisir d'amore), Kudrjas (Katja Kabanova) and Simpleton (Boris Godunov). He also sang Ferrando at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan and at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Tamino at the Glyndebourne Festival, Wiener Festwochen and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and Jaquino at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

In 2006/07, he performed Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, Tamino at the Theater an der Wien and Bayerische Staatsoper, Nemorino at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Evangelist (J.S. Bach’s St-John Passion) at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Ferrando at the Glyndebourne Festival and recitals in Berlin and in Brussels. He has recently sung Don Ottavio at the Staatsoper Berlin and Tamino at the Royal Opera House London.

Among his projects, he will be singing Don Ottavio at the Salzburg Festival, Idamante (Idomeneo), Lensky (Eugen Onegin) and Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Alfred (Die Fledermaus) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Don Ottavio and Ferrando at the Metropolitan Opera, Belmonte at the Staatsoper Berlin, Ferrando and Don Ottavio at the Royal Opera House London, Lensky and Tamino at the Wiener Staatsoper, Belmonte at the Gran Teatre Liceu Barcelona and Macduff (Macbeth) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

His Highlights in concert have taken place at the BBC Proms' with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Kurt Masur (Janacek's Glagolitic Mass), with the Concert d'Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm in London and Paris (Handel's Il Trionfo del Tempo), at the Edinburgh Festival (Beethoven's Christ on the Mount of Olives and Mass in C) with the Dresden Philharmonic and Kurt Masur (world Premiere of Siegried Matthus’ Te Deum). He has recently performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis, with the Orchestre National de France and Kurt Masur (Beethoven's Missa Solemnis) and Riccardo Muti (Berlioz’ La Messe Solennelle). Projects include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Mendessohn’s Elias with the Orchestre National de France and Kurt Masur, Berlioz’ Roméo et Juliette with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and Riccardo Muti and a recital at the Frankfurt Opera.

Pavol Breslik has been critically-acclaimed for his recordings of Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo with Emmanuelle Haïm for Virgin Classics and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with Laurence Equilbey for Naïve.
